Training Advisory Board - Michael Runyon
Mr. Runyon has been a prosecutor for 14 years in the San Diego County District Attorney's Office. Among other assignments, he spent 6 years in the Gang Prosecution Unit. During his tenure in that unit he prosecuted 15 murder cases and numerous other felony cases involving traditional criminal street gangs, the Mexican Mafia, and non- traditional gangs such as tagging crews. He has received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the San Diego District Attorney's Association in 2004 and 2008. He traveled to El Salvador in 2006 with other law enforcement officers and met with the national government to develop strategies on how to effectively prosecute crimes committed by MS-13 gang members in El Salvador .
He lectures throughout the state of California on various aspects of Juvenile and Adult prosecution. He has taught for the California District Attorney's Association, California Narcotics Association, various District Attorney's offices and law enforcement agencies.
Mr. Runyon received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of California at Irvine in 1991. He received his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University in 1994. He is also an adjunct professor in the Administration of Justice Program at Southwestern College in San Diego where teaches Criminal Law, Evidence and Criminal Procedure.
